Dr. Thomas Monaco DACVS-SA has become one of the most trusted names in veterinary surgery across the tri-state area. Since beginning his career as a surgeon over a decade ago, Dr. Monaco has gained a reputation for his surgical outcomes, outstanding bedside manner, and ability to take on some of the most challenging surgical cases.
As a board-certified surgeon, Dr. Monaco underwent extensive surgical training after graduating veterinary school. This included a 1-year internship, a 3-year residency, and passing a rigorous certification exam. After finishing his education, Dr. Monaco returned to the tri-state area where he was born and raised. After many years working at large 24-hour emergency and specialty hospitals in New York and New Jersey, Dr. Monaco and his wife Francesca set out to elevate surgical care by developing New Jersey’s first veterinary surgical center, Vantage.

Surgical Services We Provide
Surgery Consultations
Dr. Monaco will take the time to provide understandable explanations of your pet’s condition and all available treatment options. You will get the information you need to make the most informed decision and plan a path forward.
Orthopedic Surgery
We diagnose and treat cranial cruciate ligament injuries, patella luxation, bone fractures, congenital orthopedic malformations, and other joint / musculotendinous injuries.
Soft Tissue / Oncologic Surgery
We provide a wide range of soft-tissue procedures across the various body systems – diseases in the abdomen, thorax, ENT, endocrine organs, skin and more. This commonly involves the treatment of tumors and cancers.
Minimally Invasive Surgery
Surgical procedures at Vantage can be performed through smaller incisions that result in quicker recovery and less pain than traditional surgery – for example, in joints (arthroscopy), in the abdomen (laparoscopy), or in the chest (thoracoscopy).
Anesthesia & Pain Management
Dr. Monaco and the Vantage team have advanced training and extensive experience in anesthesia and pain management. We develop individualized anesthetic protocols to maximize each pet’s comfort and safety.
Diagnostic Imaging
In addition to digital radiography (X-ray), our state-of-the-art 64-slice CT scanner enables us to quickly obtain the highest quality images to better understand your pet’s condition and determine the best treatment options.
PRP / Regenerative Medicine
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy can accelerate the healing of impaired tendons, ligaments, muscles, and joints. PRP can also be combined with hyaluronic acid to reduce inflammation and discomfort in chronically arthritic joints.
